Garland Holley, 90, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 19th at First United Methodist Church. Rev. David Black will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Garland was born in Cross Plains, Texas on December 21, 1921 to the late James and Alma (Coats) Holley. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Garland married Phletus Henderson on October 5, 1947 in Abilene.
He was a longtime resident of Abilene and a member of First United Methodist Church and the "Harvester's" Sunday School Class. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Early Birds Travel Club. Garland worked in the service department as an auto technician for Heritage Cadillac and John Speer Cadillac until retiring in 1986.
Garland was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Truett Holley. He is survived by his wife, Phletus Holley of Abilene; one daughter, Andrea Cross and husband Raymond of Abilene; two grandchildren, Stephen Cross and wife Brenda of Canyon, and Karen Gordy and husband Clay of Lubbock; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
