G. Mack Bowdoin
G. Mack Bowdoin, age 79, passed from this world into eternal life on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
Mack was born May 5, 1935 to George Alexander Bowdoin and Sarah Louise Tribble Bowdoin in Abilene, Texas. He attended Abilene schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1953. He attended Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University in Abilene, Texas before going to work for Citizens National Bank in 1956.
Mack joined the U.S. Naval Reserves on November 1, 1953, serving eight years before being honorably discharged.
In 1958 Mack married Patty Muston in Abilene at Central Presbyterian Church.
In May of 1962 Mack became a claims adjuster for Floyd West and Company. In July of 1966 Mack was transferred to the home office in Dallas as assistant manager of the Farm and Ranch Department. While living in Dallas, Mack served as an Elder at McNeely Memorial Presbyterian Church.
In 1969 he returned to Abilene to accept a position with Mead Johnson-Bristol-Meyers Squibb. Mack called on many doctor’s offices and hospitals, and was a successful pharmaceutical representative. He retired in 1993 and continued to live in Abilene.
Mack was an energetic employee and an avid hunter, and enjoyed being a hunting guide for various groups. He was a thoughtful and caring husband and father, trustworthy, forthright and always dependable. He was a gentle man with a quiet sense of humor.
Mack’s parents and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patty Bowdoin; his children, William Mack Bowdoin of Phoenix, Arizona, and Elisabeth “Libby” Bowdoin Land and husband Craig of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Rebecca Land Morales and husband Carlos of Midland, William Clark Bowdoin and wife Anna of North Carolina, and James Land and wife Emily of Midland; and great-grandchildren, Hailey Elisabeth Morales, Bailey Elisabeth Morales both of Midland, and Brooklyn Elizabeth Bowdoin of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at First Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Janice Six officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Cockerell, Chad Bramlet, Jan Clauson, David Rogers, Sean Irby and Bill Keeble.
The family expresses special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hendrick Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
