Frieda Jean Ashton, 78, died Friday, September 16, 2016, at an Abilene, Texas nursing home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas. The family requests that since this is a “Celebration of Life”, all attendees wear red, white and blue or other bright, cheerful clothing instead of black. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, Hidalgo County, Texas.
The daughter of the late Myrtle Mae and Charley Pipkin, Frieda was born on February 22, 1938 in Beebe, Arkansas. For several years she was the Vice President for Kleinberg Shrimping Industries where she managed the day to day operations for the company. Frieda was most known for her duties as loving wife, Mom, head cook, chief bottle washer, counselor, chauffeur, boo boo kisser and Best Grandma Ever…… a.k.a. Domestic Goddess! She also enjoyed dancing, bowling and was active with the American Legion Auxiliary.
Frieda was preceded by her parents Charley and Myrtle Pipkin, her loving husband, Clifford Ashton and three siblings. She is survived by her oldest son Clifford Wayne Ashton of Bossier City, Louisiana, daughter Debra Mae and husband Al Morotini of Abilene, Texas, youngest son Robert Owen and wife Cheryl of Haughton, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Michael Ashton, Wendy Morris, Heather Dean and Taylor Ashton; and six great grandchildren, Elijah and Taylor Morris, Peyton and Riley Ashton, and Matthew and Lucas Dean.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hendrick Hospice Care or Alzheimer’s Research.
