Freda Dale Bowie

Freda Bowie, 94, formerly of Abilene, passed away on July 28th at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX. Graveside services (for family only) and burial will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Freda was born in Wanette, OK to Robert and Goldie Wright on January 14, 1922. She was home schooled until she was 17 years old and attended Roff High School for one year, graduating as salutatorian. She married Hugh Bowie on June 21, 1940 a marriage that lasted over 73 years, until his death in 2014. Freda and Hugh operated a jewelry store in downtown Abilene for many years. They were members of the College/University Church of Christ since 1950. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hugh Bowie, one sister, Lilith Wilkins and one brother, Allen Wright. Freda is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Cameron and her husband, Bruce Cameron of Pottsboro, TX, one brother, Royce Wright of Silverdale, WA, one sister, Mary Winston of Vallejo, CA, two grandsons, Scott Bowie of New York City and David Bowie of San Diego, CA, three granddaughters, Natalie Bowie of San Diego, Briana Bowie of Las Vegas, NV, and summer Bowie of Los Angeles, two nieces, Lavon Baker of Bedford, TX and Carol Ann Henry of Phoenix, AZ. Freda’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Guardian Hospice of Sherman, TX for their amazing care and kindness.
