Rev. Fred L. Levrets
Fred L. Levrets, 86, of Abilene, Texas passed away on June 11, 2015 in his home.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A graveside service will be Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Drummond Cemetery, View, Texas. A memorial service will be Monday, June 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Fred was born in View, Texas to Melvin Roy and Hilda Galle Levrets on March 5, 1929. He grew up in the View community and graduated from Abilene High School in 1948. He also earned degrees from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX. and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. He married Marylou Knight on June 7, 1951 in Abilene. He served as a pastor in Texas and Oklahoma before spending almost 30 years serving with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Nigeria and other West African countries. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Abilene, TX.
Fred received numerous awards for his service to the community and Foreign Mission work including the Distinguished Alumni Award from HSU Logsdon School of Theology in 1997, the Jesse C. Fletcher Award for distinguished Service in Missions from HSU Logsdon School of Theology April 21, 2006 and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Abilene, Lowell G. Perry Memorial Award in September 30, 1999. People worldwide will remember Fred’s servant heart and his deep, abiding Love for family and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Eunice Bogie and Bernice Brazzil and two sons, Scott Levrets and Stephen Levrets.
He is survived by his wife Marylou; daughter, Susan (Bobby) Walker, grandchildren: Clay (Nichole) Walker and great-grandchildren Colin, Tyler and Emily; Ashlee (Jeremy) Hall and great-grandchildren Jaedyn Keely and Brody; daughter, Jan Levrets Crumpton, grandchildren: Jeron Powell, Johanna (Jason) Weltzin and great-grandchild Jones, and Jacob Powell; son Stan (Judy) Levrets; grandchildren: Kristin (Clay) Fulghum and great-grandchildren Leighton, Amelia and Piper; Blake (Melissa) Levrets and great-grandchildren Emery and Max; Bryan (Rachel) Levrets and great-grandchild Boone. He is also survived by two brothers, Monroe (Joyce) Levrets and Tim (Kathy) Levrets; one sister, Geri Conley and many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be: Grandsons, Blake Levrets, Clay Fulghum, Clay Walker, Jason Weltzin and Nephews, Barry Roy, Chuck Roy, Greg Levrets, Randy Levrets.
