Frank Lovell

1944 — September 4, 2014

Frank Lovell, 70, loving husband, son, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed from this world and into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 4, 2014. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, September 8th at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Frank was born April 20, 1944 in Cordell, Oklahoma to Earl and Helene Lovell. Frank attended school in Cloud Chief, Oklahoma and graduated from Cordell High School in 1962. Frank was an accomplished athlete, playing football, basketball, baseball and track, and was voted most athletic in his class. He attended The University of Oklahoma on a basketball scholarship, and was a proud and lifelong Boomer Sooner. Frank served his country with honor in the United States Army. He married Barbara Keen on June 28, 1968 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Barbara was the girl who captured his heart and with whom he spent the next 46 years loving and caring for her and their family. He worked at automotive dealerships throughout Texas and Oklahoma, but his final position was working as the new car sales manager at Lawrence Hall. Frank never forgot a face, name or the car he sold you – the mark of a great business man. He was respected and loved by all those he worked with and for. Other than his family, Frank’s greatest love was the golf course – not only because of the game but because of the lasting friendships that were made on and off the course. An avid sports fan, he could also be found cheering on his Sooners and the Abilene High Eagles, especially when his sons or grandchildren were involved. A devout Christian and longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, Frank had a close relationship with his Lord and Savior. Known as “Sonny” by his family and “Daddy Frank” by his grandchildren, he was always happiest surrounded by his family and cooking out on the grill. Frank is survived by his adoring, loving wife Barbara, his step-son Tony and wife, Donna of Cache, Oklahoma, and his three sons – Tyler and his wife Amy, Lynn and his wife Stephanie and John all of Abilene. Frank had four loving granddaughters, Kellie Schmidt of Cache, Oklahoma, Kristie Williamson of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Rylee and Shiloh Lovell of Abilene, and his only grandson – Truett Frank Lovell of Abilene. He is also survived by his mother Helene McDaniel and his beloved and “favorite” sister Rovena Alexander and her husband Lynn of Nicholasville, Kentucky. Frank is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a loving extended family. Frank was preceded in death by his only daughter, Sunny Jean-Marie Lovell, and his father Earl Lovell. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Grubbs, Lawson Davis, Cory Foreman, John Speer, Mike Garrett and Guinn Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be David Gist and Lynn Alexander. We loved him every day and we will miss him every day until we see him again.
