Frances English Stanley, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the age of 87. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 27, 2007, in the chapel at First Baptist Church. Dr. Phil Christopher and Rev. Russell Stanley will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
March 10, 1920, Frances was born the daughter of Percy Forest English and Sadie (Boozer) English in Sweetwater, Texas. She graduated from Sweetwater High School and attended TSCW, which is now TWU (Texas Women's University), for two years. She graduated from McMurry University with a Bachelor of Education degree. She taught 5th grade at Bonham Elementary for 25 years. June 13, 1940, Frances married H.C. Stanley in Sweetwater. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Abilene has been Frances home since 1947. She was past president of the Abilene Chapter of the American Retired Teachers Association and a member of the National Association of Retired Teachers Association. Frances was an active member of First Baptist Church and her Sunday school class.
Frances was a loving, kind, and compassionate lady. She was a caring and adoring mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, H.C. Stanley, and two brothers, Armand English and Leo English. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Stephanie Dawn Stanley, on July 10, 2005. Frances is survived by one son, Richard D. Stanley, M.D. and his wife Linda, of Abilene; three brothers, J.P. English and his wife Margie, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Waiford English and his wife Jeanette, also of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Robert F. English and his wife Millie, of Marion, Texas; one sister, Martha Jean Jones and her husband James, of Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Richie Stanley and his wife Gabby, of Abilene, and Russell Stanley and his wife Lauren, of Rule, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis Stanley and Katie Stanley. She is also survived by her loving, faithful canine companion, George Strait.
Dr. Charles Anderson, Dr. Mark Maberry, Dr. James R. Marshall, Dr. Robert Odgee, Dr. Randall Stockstill Dieter Hutchinson and Michael Hanneman will serve as pallbearers.
