Frances Louise Herchenhahn

1923 — March 20, 2008

After a brief illness, Frances Louise Wallace Herchenhahn went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 20, 2008. Frances was born March 18th to James Forest and Emily Louise Klingensmith Wallace in Beggs, Oklahoma. She was the sixth child in a family of seven children. Frances moved with her family to Abilene, Texas as a very young child. She attended Abilene Public Schools and graduated from Abilene High School. She attended Hardin-Simmons University where she was a member of the Cowgirls. Frances married George B. Herchenhahn on December 30, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas. During their married life, George served in the United States Air Force and they were stationed in Guam, Killeen, Texas, Ft. Worth, Texas, El Paso, Texas and Abilene, Texas. Frances loved their life in the military and made many lifelong friends. An avid bridge player, Frances achieved the status of Silver Life Master in 2004 and was a member of numerous bridge clubs. Frances was a member of Wylie Baptist Church. Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George, her parents, two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by one daughter, Susan Alford of Benton, Arkansas. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Dean Alford (and wife, Catharine) of San Mateo, California and Jennifer James (and husband, Donald) of Benton, Arkansas. Additionally, she is survived by four great-grandchildren, Zachery and Abigail Alford of San Mateo, California and Benjamin and Gray James of Benton, Arkansas, two sisters, Madole Harper of Eastland, Texas and Betty McCaleb of Abilene, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Frances' life will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Hamil Family Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Her family will gather at her home in Abilene. France's family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Anton Melnyk and the nursing staff of the oncology unit at Hendrick Medical Center for their many acts of caring and kindness.
