FRANCES GARDNER
1924 - 2009
Frances Gardner, a resident of Wesley Court, died Monday, August 17, 2009. She was born August 24, 1924 in Avoca, Texas to William and Flora Gardner.
Frances attended school in Avoca, where she graduated from high school. She went to Fort Worth and attended Brantley Draughon's Business College. After graduation she worked in civil service, then went to work in the criminal division of the United States Attorney's Office in December, 1955. She was the secretary for several U.S. Attorneys before becoming a Criminal Technician in the U.S. Attorney's office. She retired in 1994 and moved to Abilene. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Colleen Bothwell of Indiana, Florene Grimes of Mineral Wells; two brothers: Jerry Gardner and Ralph Gardner of Abilene. She is survived by two sisters and their husbands: Lee Roach and Jim of Houston, Joy Hollowell and Bill of Abilene; a sister-in-law, Ruth Gardner of Abilene, a brother-in-law, Vernon Bothwell of Indiana; a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends at Wesley Court.
Services will be held Thursday, August 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, and will be conducted by Pastor Stan Allcorn of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
