Frances Hill, Weeze, was born in the Oak Cliff Methodist parsonage in Dallas to Dr. O.T. and Jennie Hill Cyrus Cooper on February 4, 1919. After the death of her father, she and her mother moved to Abilene, where her mother was the dorm matron for the boys' dorm at McMurry (College) University. She graduated from Abilene High School and received her bachelor degree from McMurry, where she received the life long nickname of Weeze. She married J Neil Daniel in 1941.
While Neil was over seas during World War II, she was employed at Dallas Methodist Hospital - her father being one of the founders of the Hospital. After the War she was employed at Hendrick Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Propheteer Sunday School Class. Weeze also taught children’s Sunday School classes. Often Weeze was in the kitchen in the Fellowship Hall helping to serve meals, as well as for families following funerals at the Church.
Weeze was a member and president of Hendrick Auxiliary, as well as serving on the State Board of Hospital Auxiliaries. She served as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels, Dyess Pharmacy and the Presbyterian Medical Mission. In September 2018 Weeze was honored by McMurry University as a “Trailblazer.” At the time she was the oldest living alumnae of McMurry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Neil, sister, Ann Catherine Ross, and daughter, Gayle Daniel Rea and son-in-law, Sandy Rea.
She is survived by daughter Sharon and husband Max Robertson and son, Walter Cooper Daniel, four grandchildren: Jana Rea Buckley, Billy Rea, Sarah Robertson Johnson, Daniel Robertson; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by countless friends.
The Family wishes to thank Wesley Court for the compassionate care they provided Weeze for many years. Thank you to Interim Hospice & Kindred at Home for the loving, compassionate help and support during the last days of her life.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Daniel Endowed Scholarships at McMurry University, Box 938, Abilene, Texas 79605, St. Paul United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
