Frances "Polly" Jean Chance, 64, answered God's call on Monday, February 26, 2007 at Hendrick Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2007 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Celebration services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Macedonia Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Frances was born August 8, 1942 in Marshall, Texas to Mr. Maurice J. Chance, Sr. and the late Mrs. Birdie Chance. She attended public school in Marshall, Texas and moved to Abilene, Texas in 1952, where she graduated from Woodson High School.
Frances former employers included Lone Star Gas Company, Abilene, Transit and the Kiva Inn. Her last employer was Southwest Home Health Care Agency until her retirement. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member Macedonia Baptist Church. Frances served as a musician for one of the local churches for many years. She was married to Luther Brooks for 25 years and remained friends until his death.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Birdie "Honey Pie" Chance. She leaves to cherish her memories, her father, Maurice J. Chance, Sr. of Abilene, Texas; her devoted sister, who stayed by her side until the end, Bobbie Jean Chance of Sweetwater, Texas; a beloved brother, Maurice J. (Shirley) Chance, Jr. of La Marque, Texas; two aunts, Mary Edmonds of Lawton, Oklahoma and Eva Greene of Houston, Texas; a special friend, Owen Rayford of Abilene, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hendrick Medical Center and Hendrick Hospice Care for the special care and kindness shown during her illness. We thank the Macedonia Church of Family, friends and family members for all that they have done to encourage us during the time.
