Ford A. Farr, 72, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Abilene, Texas on November 18, 1938, he was the son of Ethelda Thompson and Leith Carroll "Slim" Farr. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hardin-Simmons University. He was a retired teacher, having taught Cooper High Art, Special Ed at Mann Middle School, and Special Ed at Stamford High School. Mr. Farr was a General Contractor prior to teaching.
He was a Christian and a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. He was also a member of the Center for Contemporary Arts and Creative Arts Club. Ford was a U. S. Army veteran, stationed in France. He traveled all over Europe as he played football during his three years with the Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Carroll Farr-Beasley; and brother, Michael Farr.
Ford is survived by his wife, Marcella Nunley Farr, whom he married on February 28, 1986 in Abilene. Survivors also include his son, Brandon Farr of Los Angeles, California; daughter Monique Farr-Dines of Austin; stepson, Kelly Gayhart of Orlando, Florida; stepdaughter, Angie Slomke of Barboursville, West Virginia; granddaughter, Cheyenne Dines; and three step-grandchildren, Kellie Sue Slomke, Kyra Gayhart and Tanner Gayhart.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Pastor Bob Wright officiating.
