Floyd (Pud) Rogers, 72, of Nugent went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 23, 2010. Floyd walked into the arms of his wife after 34 years of confinement to a wheelchair. Floyd fought the good fight but even on his bad days he would say "Any day you serve the Lord is a good day". When you came to his home you never walked away empty handed - he always gave you food from the garden, eggs or advice...whether you wanted or not.
Floyd was born March 4, 1938 in Haskell, Texas to Floyd and Willa Smith Rogers. He married Ella Gowens on December 13, 1958 in Crosbyton, Texas. He was an active member and deacon at Ft. Phantom Baptist Church as well as a proud member of the Masonic Lodge. Floyd was also a great teacher to many of the youth in the community, teaching them life skills and how to serve others selflessly.
Floyd was preceded in death by his devoted wife Ella, his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
His legacy included his three children, Derral Rogers of Nugent, Darlia Wright and husband Perry of Haskell, Deneice Wright and husband Darrin of Abilene;
seven grandchildren, Nicole Rogers of Lubbock, Lora, Snow, Dylan and Curtis Wright of Haskell, and Katelyn and Ethan Wright, all of Abilene; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Samara Hayes of Lubbock; a special sister-in-law, Joyce Rogers and one sister, Donna Dunkhurst of New Mexico.
