Floyd E. Powell, 80, of Abilene, Texas passed away suddenly on February 10, 2024. He was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
Floyd was born in Caldwell, Idaho to Ervan and Bessie Powell on April 8, 1943. He went to school and graduated in Caldwell. He married Linda Bingham on April 8, 1966 in Knob Noster, Missouri after a 17-day courtship! Floyd served in the United States Air Force for 22 years, where he received various meritorious service awards, before retiring at Whiteman AirForce Base, Knob Noster, Missouri on December 31, 1986. Ironically, they were married on Floyd's birthday and retired from the military on Linda's! He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Red Horse Squadron in South Korea. He was a founding member of Harvest Baptist Church where he happily served the Lord for 20 years.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Ervan and Bessie, son-in-law David Welch, and granddaughter Eden Powell.
Floyd is survived by his beloved wife Linda, his daughter Stacie Welch of Georgia and Floyd (spouse Melissa) Powell of Houston. Floyd has 5 brothers. Don Powell, Clyde (spouse Kay) Powell, Alvin Powell, Gene (spouse Jan) Powell, and Howard (spouse Linda) Powell, all of Caldwell, Idaho. Floyd's pride and joy were his grandchildren, Brianna and Ian Welch and Jackson Powell.
The visitation will be from 5-7pm on Friday, February 16th at Hamil Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX.
Funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 17th at Harvest Baptist Church, 1389 Vine Street, Abilene, TX with Senior Pastor Roy Meksch, officiating.
In lieu of graveside service, Floyd will receive full military honors at the funeral service on Saturday. He will be privately laid to rest on Monday at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
The family of Floyd wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of the faithful family members at Harvest Baptist Church and our many neighbors and friends who have stood with us through this difficult time.
