Florence B. Chase

Florence Chase, 88, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at a local nursing center. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday at the funeral home, with Rev. H.B. Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. On April 13, 1918, Florence was born in Long Island, New York to Alfred Borley and Ida May (Mitchell) Borley. She was employed as a secretary at New York Life Insurance Company. She moved to the Abilene area from New York in 1951, where she married Thomas Chase in Tye, Texas on December 22, 1951. He preceded her in death in December 1980. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Benson in 1991. Florence was a Methodist and had volunteered at Hendrick Medical Center since 1982. She is survived by her nephew, Donald Nafis of Flushing, New York and two grandchildren, Catherine and Robert Benson.
