Fern Taylor, "Granny" 101, of Abilene passed peacefully from this life on February 1, 2007, at the home of her beloved grandson, John Stevens. Born December 15, 1905, in Coleman to Nat and Cora Wright, she lived most of her life in Hamlin and moved to Abilene around 1980. She was married to Tom Taylor in 1926 and was a homemaker. Granny was a joy to be around, having a wise proverb, full of wit and wisdom. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 4, 2007, at the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A private burial will be held at the Hamlin Cemetery on Monday, February 5, 2006, at 4:00 PM.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Betty Stevens and an infant son. Survivors include her grandsons, John Stevens of Abilene and Tommy Stevens and wife Evelyn of Abilene, a great granddaughter, Betty Stevens Roberts and husband Jesse, two great-great grandchildren, Preston Rideout and Logan Roberts all of Sweetwater, one sister Margie Seymore of Clyde, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Granny was cared for by several very special care givers, Betty Wiebe, Melba Payne and Christy Wyatt and a host of Hospice of the Big Country workers. Granny will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
