Elsie Faye Tarrant Terry, 92, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Carrollton, TX. She was born May 16, 1928 to Steve Vincent and Jessie Rozella Tarrant in Clyde. Steve and Jessie were both pioneer residents of Callahan County.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 US Hwy 277-South, with Dr. Jeff Reid and John Fanning officiating. Funeral arrangements and services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Faye attended grade school at the Lone Oak School near Clyde and graduated from Clyde High School in 1945. After she graduated from high school, she attended and graduated from Draughon's Business School in Abilene in 1946. She attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene for one year in 1956.
On February 8, 1947, she was married to her high school sweetheart, H.B. Terry, Jr., in the First Methodist Church in Clyde.
She was converted at the age of 14 and baptized into the First Methodist Church of Clyde in 1942. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Baird in 1952, where her husband, H.B. Terry, Jr., surrendered his life to preach the gospel. She has been a Sunday School teacher for over forty years. She was very faithful as the wife of a minister and a loyal church member serving on many committees in the churches where her husband pastored in Tuscola, Eastland and Abilene. She was most recently a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, and was the teacher of the Naomi Sunday School Class.
Faye retired December 31, 1990 from Taylor County after working for 29 years. Faye worked in the district clerk's office from February 1, 1953 until January 1, 1989 when she began working in the domestic relations department. She has worked under the following district clerks: Judge J. Neil Daniel, the late Robert "Bob" Ross, Irene Crawford, and Rilla Mahoney.
Faye and her husband, H.B., were active members of Prime Time Ministry at Pioneer Baptist Church. The Prime Timer motto: "In the Prime of Life, Having the Time of Life" included enjoying trips to Canada and across the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband H.B. Terry, Jr. on December 13, 2011, son Homer Brown Terry, III on November 7, 2020, and by her brother Hugh Tarrant.
Faye is survived by her grandson, Ben Terry and wife Annette; great-granddaughter, Sawyer McKinley Terry; niece, Judy Favor; nephews, Hugh Tarrant and Melvin Martin; several Gibson-Tarrant cousins; and Terry nieces and nephews, Becky and DeWayne Fox, Cathy and Jim Smith, David and Cindy Mahoney, Gary and Joyce Higgs, and Tommy and Diane Higgs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Faye may be made to Prime Time Ministry at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.
