Farrell Fillmore Hogg, 85, of Abilene, Texas, went to be with his Lord on January 2, 2013.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Hillcrest Church of Christ with Terry Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Farrell Hogg was born March 12, 1927 in Lamesa, Texas to Franklin Oliver and Sallie Leona Hogg. A 1944 graduate of Union High, he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Tech. He went on to teach at Dawson High School, Crane High School, and for 34 years in Abilene at Bowie Elementary, Austin Elementary, and Franklin Middle School. He served in the United States Army from 1950-52.
He was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was known for remembering people’s names, and he and Grace were wonderful examples of hospitality. He belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution and numerous teaching organizations. His interests included genealogy, gardening and playing games with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Hogg was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Franklin Oliver Hogg, Junior. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ulma Grace Hogg; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Norman Taylor of Carrollton; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Ginny Hogg of Dallas; son, Kevin Hogg of Columbia, Maryland; son and daughter-in-law, Kerek and Carrie Hogg of Arlington; and three sisters, Foy Millican, Louise Cape, and Mary Lois Wilson. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Marcus Dickey, Micah Taylor, Cory Dickey, Harrison Taylor, Katelyn Taylor, Nathan Hogg, Natalie Hogg, Hannah Hogg, Nicholas Hogg, and Benjamin Hogg; one great-granddaughter, Naomi Taylor; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
