Farrar Dean "Sweetie" Allen, 86, died Friday, August 4, 2006 in a local healthcare center. A funeral service, with Dr. Billy C. Spencer officiating, will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 7 in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at the conclusion of services and burial will follow at 5:00 p.m. in the Greenleaf Cemetery at Brownwood, Texas under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Sweetie was born February 1, 1920 in Mullin, Texas to T.C. and Maggie Stebbins Williams. After attending school in Brownwood, she married L.J. Pittman. Mr. Pittman later died in 1945. Sweetie then married Sam B. Allen and together they operated a pharmacy in Brownwood. In 1966, they moved to Abilene where they owned Barnes and Williams Drugstore along with their son, Larry, who continues the family business at this time. Sam died in 1999. Sweetie was involved in the University Baptist Church as a volunteer and a Sunday School Teacher. She was a past president of the American Business Women's Association where she received the Pearl Hand of Friendship award for securing new members and the Woman of the Year award in 1981. Sweetie was a member of the Abilene Woman's Club, the Abilene Philharmonic Association and served on the board of the Abilene Civic Ballet Company. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jay Pittman. Survivors include: two sons, Larry and wife Barbara Pittman of Clyde; Sam, Jr and wife Chong Allen of Brownwood; and one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Allen of Lisbon, Portugal; five grandchildren, Dayna Hernandez & her husband Fred of San Angelo, Paige Pittman of Abilene, Casey Pittman of Abilene, and Alexander & Nikolai of Lisbon, Portugal; seven great-granddaughters as well as several nieces and nephews. The Pallbearers for the service will be Dr. Homer Allen, C.D. Anderson, Ronnie Blackmore, Nikolai, Glen Pittman, and Jim Snelgrove. Memorials may be made in honor of Sweetie to the YMCA Breast Cancer Awareness Program, 1350 N.10th Abilene, Texas, 79601 or Hendricks Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas, 79601
