Fannie Box, age 101, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, July 16th, 2018 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Wes Terry will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 15th at the funeral home.
Fannie was born in Fordyce, Arkansas to Robert and Josie Cheek on March 17, 1917. She moved with her family to Abilene, Texas in 1928. Fannie attended school in Fordyce and also in Abilene. On April 3, 1938 she married Larue Box and they lived in various places in Texas. Her husband was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and they came back to Abilene and owned and operated B & S Motors until his death in 1992.
Fannie was known as a good cook and loved to have friends and family over for her delicious meals. She loved to go deer hunting every year with her husband. She also loved to play Canasta, 42, and Phase 10 and watch the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys on TV. She was loved by her nieces and nephews because she was a lot of fun and a good sport.
Fannie was preceded in death by her husband Larue Box and her step-son Kenneth. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Sam, Albert, Archie, Bill and Herbert Cheek; and two sisters, Elsie Carpenter and Val King.
She is survived by her sister, Bobye Eagleston and nephews Jack, Larry and Doug Carpenter, Rocky Cheek and Mike and Matt Eagleston and Darrel Helms; nieces Mina King and Barbara Helms, Jean Wood, Margie Beach, Sharon Harbin, Sylvia Priest and Phyllis Eschrich and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
