Evelyn Chesbro Sleeper died peacefully on March 22, 2016 in Abilene, Texas at the age of 82.
Evelyn was born on May 12, 1933 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada to John and Mabel Chesbro. She married Drew Cutter Sleeper, 2nd Lieut. of the U.S. Air Force, of Scarsdale, New York in 1952. Evelyn spent the first 30 years of marriage supporting her husband and growing her family around the world. In 1975, they moved to Abilene, where she was the successful owner of The Kitchen Shop and quickly became a top-selling “Pacesetter” of men’s suits at Dillard's. She loved and was loved by many.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 63 years, Drew Sleeper; her three daughters: Leslie and husband Tim Ellis; Jennifer and husband David White; Shelby and husband Jeff Smith; as well as her 7 adored grandchildren, 4 blessed great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mabel Chesbro; and her three beloved siblings, Eldon Porter “Joe” Chesbro, William J. Chesbro, and Irma Chesbro Annesley.
A memorial will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 9th at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with reception to follow. Reverend Felicia Hopkins will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Evelyn’s life.
