Evelyn Shipman

Long time Abilene chiropractor, Willie Evelyn Shipman passed away April 29, 2007 at the age of 90. A graveside service, with Reverend Kevin Kennedy officiating, will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007 in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. There will be a visitation at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Evelyn was born in Jones County, Texas on March 4, 1917 to William Henry and Mary Stevens Kennedy. She graduated from Anson High School in 1935 and attended Hardin Simmons. She married Dr. J.C. Shipman in Abilene in 1937. In 1940, she graduated from Carver Chiropractic College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her life was dedicated to the practice and promotion of her profession, providing chiropractic care to her many patients, along with loving and endless support to family and friends. A life member of Texas State Chiropractic Association, in 1963 she received the Keeler Plaque, awarded by the Association to the Outstanding Chiropractor in the State of Texas for Meritorious Service to chiropractic in Texas. Dr. Shipman was an avid sports fan. Survivors include: a son, Kenney Shipman of Abilene; a daughter, Penny Brooks and husband Bill of Houston; seven grandchildren, Chad Shipman and wife Eileen of Katy, Brett Shipman and wife Sarah of Truckee, CA, Clay Shipman and wife Izabela of Walnut Creek, CA, Wade Shipman of Walnut Creek, CA, Michael Brooks of Houston, Timothy Brooks and wife Alisha of Houston and Crystal Brooks also of Houston; five great grandchildren, Andy Shipman, Connor Shipman, Ashlee Brooks, Preston Brooks, and Christopher Brooks; a sister, Ada Hail of Canyon, TX; a brother-in-law, Dr. R.L. Shipman of Lubbock, TX; nieces Kay Hamlin and husband Charles of Sweetwater, TX and Tona Shipman of Lubbock, TX; nephew Jay Hail and wife Leslie of Canyon, TX; long time caregiver Letha Ann Booker of Abilene, and many cousins, great nieces, nephews and friends.
