Evelyn Templeton Fletcher, 88, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Hillcrest Church of Christ. Dr. Eddie Sharp and Roger Gee will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. There is no scheduled visitation. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Evelyn was born January 9, 1925 in Fisher, Arkansas to Lewis and Erma (Smith) Cox. She graduated from high school in Clovis, New Mexico and attended Abilene Christian College (now University) for two years. She met Ed Templeton at ACC in 1942. He went to war and when he returned they were married in Clovis, New Mexico on May 4, 1945. They lived in Austin and Ft. Worth and started Templeton Pharmacy in Abilene in 1955. She was the bookkeeper for the pharmacy for many years. Ed preceded her in death in 1980.
She married Milton Fletcher on June 25, 1985 in Abilene. They moved to Michigan where Milton was President of Michigan Christian College and she was the First Lady—and she was a great one. Evelyn and Milton moved from Michigan to Kennedale, Texas in 1991 where they lived for three years before returning to Abilene.
Before moving to Michigan she was a member of the University Church of Christ. When they returned to Abilene, Evelyn was a very active member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Women of ACU and, while in Michigan, a member of the Women of Michigan Christian College. She loved to sew and made a lot of her own clothes. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Ed Templeton, and one brother, Lewis C. Cox, Jr. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Milton Fletcher of Abilene; two sons, Richard and Steve Templeton both of Abilene; three step-sons, Eric Fletcher of Carrollton, Keith Fletcher of Austin, and Paul Fletcher of Middletown, Connecticut; one step-daughter, Phyllis McNiel of Keller; one sister, Jane Floyd of Snyder; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
