Eunice Lawanda Thompson, 84, of Abilene, died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Elmwood West United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Old Runnels Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
April 3, 1924, Eunice was born in Pumphrey, Texas to the late Clide Collinsworth and Alice (Nixon) Collinsworth. She graduated from high school in Winters, Texas. Eunice married Howard Lee Thompson in Tucson, Arizona on February 6, 1943. She moved to Abilene in 1975 from Brownwood. Eunice was a volunteer at Abilene Regional Medical Center. She was also active in the "Walk To Emmaus" and was involved with the French Robertson Prison Ministry. Eunice was a member of Elmwood West United Methodist Church.
Preceding Eunice in death were her parents, her husband, Howard Thompson October 25, 2006, two brothers, Lloyd and D.B. Collinsworth, and one sister, Nola Collinsworth. She is survived by one son, Randall Thompson and his wife Carol, of Reston, Virginia; one daughter, Judy Smith and her husband Bob, of Brownwood; one sister, Leola Williams, of Abilene; four grandchildren, Ronnie and Mike Smith, and Tami Denslinger and Susan Kent; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
