Ernestine (Haines) Largent went to join her Savior and her beloved husband on January 2, 2018 in Burleson, Texas, where she was in hospice care.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 6, at 2:30 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation prior to the service from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. Interment will be beside her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas.
Ernestine was born June 7, 1924 to Clifford and Lora (Kidd) Haines in Aspermont, Texas. She grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School. She married the love of her life, Bill Largent, on May 14, 1944 in Merkel and enjoyed 65 years with him until his passing in 2010.
She was, above all, a person who loved and trusted Jesus Christ, her Savior, and lived her life to bring Him honor and glory. She was always active in her church, serving as a leader in women's ministries and teaching a Sunday School class. She also served as a group leader in Bible Study Fellowship. Her major role was being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Her employment included pastor's secretary in Tulia, Texas and at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, working in a doctor's office, and at a Hallmark store.
She was an encourager to those who knew her with her witty and compassionate personality. She was faithful to keeping in touch with friends and still took time to write letters and personal notes, which are treasured by people who received them in this digital age.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband Bill on July 24, 2010; her parents; her brother Jean Haines; and one grandson, Taylor Largent, on April 1, 2006.
She is survived by one son, Jay Largent of Granbury; two daughters, Janie (Largent) Green and husband Johnny of Granbury, and Julia (Largent) Baurichter and husband Steve of Columbia, Missouri; brother, Dalton Haines of Lubbock; six grandchildren, Trey Green and wife Leigh Anne, John Green and wife Sarah, Russ Baurichter and wife Adriane, Matt Baurichter and wife Mallory, Anna Cornelius and husband Daniel, Jody Largent and wife Chealsea; and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as her eight greatly loved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor may be made to Meals on Wheels Plus, P.O. Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604 (325-672-5050).
