Erma Jean Loveland, 79, of Abilene, TX passed away at home on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Saturday, June 25th, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 26th, 2016 at Hillcrest Church of Christ, 650 East Ambler Ave. A private family graveside service will be held at 10 am, Monday, June 27th, 2016 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Erma Jean was born in Greene County, Indiana on October 2, 1936 to Orval Lyman Alkire and Elsie Lenore (Stevens) Alkire. Erma Jean graduated from Kimberly High School (Idaho) in 1954. Erma Jean graduated in 1958 with a BS in Education with special emphasis on Business from Abilene Christian College. She received her Masters of Education from College of Idaho in 1966 and her Masters of Library Science from University of North Texas in 1989. Erma Jean married Charles Ray Loveland on May 31, 1959 in Twin Falls, ID. She worked as a school teacher in Buhl High School (ID) (1958-1959), Trent High School (1959-1960), Western Christian College (1960 -1961) (North Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada), Burley High School (ID) (1966-1969), Noodle Horn High School (1969-1973), Draughan's Business College (1973-1974), and Jim Ned High School (1974 to 1980). Erma Jean then worked as the Special Collections Librarian at the Abilene Christian University Brown Library from 1984 until her retirement in 2003. Erma Jean was a faithful member of Hillcrest Church of Christ for 47 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution – the John Davis Chapter, Texas Library Association, Christian College Librarians, assisted with the Restoration Serials Index and the Stone Campbell List. She is preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Lenore Alkire. She is survived by: her loving husband of 57 years, Charles Loveland; her son, Brad Loveland and wife, Kerry, of Putnam, TX; her daughter, LeAnn Littlefield, and husband, Gary, of Abilene, TX; her grandchildren, John Loveland and wife Rainy of Abilene, TX, Robert Loveland of Atwell, TX, Sarah Loveland of Putnam, TX, James Loveland of Putnam, TX, and Emily Littlefield of Abilene, TX; her great-grandchildren, Sasha Loveland and Joshua Loveland of Abilene, TX; and sister, Norma Harrell and husband Charles, of Wichita Falls, TX.
