Erma Pauline Hermann

Mrs. Erma Pauline (Trimble) Hermann, 96, passed from this life on January 16th, 2010 at Coronado Nursing Home, Abilene. She was born on April 9, 1913 in Augusta, Texas to Julius Adolphus (Doc) Trimble and Maude Lee (England) Trimble. The middle child of nine - four brothers and four sisters - Pauline was the sole survivor. Mrs. Hermann had 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren (two deceased), and numerous nieces and nephews. In 1932, at the age of 19, she traveled to New York City by train to marry her sweetheart, Charles Paul Hermann, who had earlier gone there to find work during the Depression. There Mr. Hermann attended Casey Jones Aeronautical School, and thereafter spent a lifetime in the aircraft industry, first with Glen L. Martin Aircraft during WWII, and then with Eastern Airlines. They moved to Houston in the late 40's, where he worked for Eastern, first at Houston International, then Intercontinental Airport until his retirement. After Mr. Hermann's death in 1976, Pauline moved to Abilene to be near her two daughters, Mrs. Carol Ann (Hermann) Cannon, wife of optometrist Dr. Glenn W. Cannon, and Dr. Marilyn (Hermann) Lewis, wife of Dr. Phillip Lewis, then faculty members at ACU. Here in Abilene she helped to care for her grandchildren when they were young. She was also very much involved in gardening, playing canasta with her friends, and cooking for the sick, shut-in's, and funerals. For many years she was an enthusiastic football fan, attending Abilene High and ACU football games. A member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ for 32 years, she was a vital part of Hillcrest's Ladies' Quilting Group, known for her precise, tiny hand-stitching. Family visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, January 19th, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd, Abilene. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 20th, at Hillcrest Church of Christ, Abilene with Dr. Glenn Cannon and Dr. Phillip Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery, Buffalo Gap, Texas. Memorials may be given to Christian Service Center, 901 Mesquite St., Abilene, TX 79601.
