Emily Christine Lomax, 29, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be Friday, January 26 from 5-7 PM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Abilene, Texas 79606.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 27 at 10 AM at Beltway Park North Campus, 2850 Highway 351 Abilene, Texas 79601. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Emily Christine Lomax was born at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas to Melissa Ann Lomax Fenton and John Matthew Lomax on May 2, 1994. She graduated from Abilene High School and West Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.
While in college Emily was a member of Enactus, where she was selected as one of 13 out of 450 students to travel to Bolivia where they provided humanitarian support for the people there.
She worked for the West Central Texas Council of Governments for 5 years as the Services and Support Project Manager. Emily had a heart for the elderly. She was the top fundraiser in 2023 for the Alzheimer’s Association, held seminars on Medicare and did radio interviews and email blasts for the Council of Governments (COG). Her boss described her as a leader, dependable, go-getter, encourager, trainer, presenter, planner, and friend. She was the face of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in the region, meeting with community partners and elected officials frequently.
She loved her work and working with seniors, which was one of her gifts. Her positive nature was contagious. She took every task on as a challenge to be conquered. Her co-workers describe her as smart, determined and the light in any room. Emily would also volunteer to help with anything that would support the work of the AAA and COG. Everyone relied on her, and she leaves a void that will be impossible to fill.
Emily loved Orca whales and was against whales being held in captivity. She encouraged everyone she knew to watch the documentary Blackfish. Her family plans to travel to Alaska in the near future where they will spread her ashes over the ocean.
Emily is survived by her two children, Landon Carter Lomax and Penny Lane Westbrook, her sister Halle Grace Lomax Hackney, her parents Melissa Ann Lomax Fenton and John Matthew Lomax, and her grandparents Linda Lovelady McElfresh, Richard McElfresh, and Janet Lomax.
Memorials may be given to Love and Care Ministries or the charity of your choice. The family of Emily Christine Lomax wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Hendrick North ICU staff and the Southwest Transplant Alliance staff.
