Elwanda Sherman, 94, formerly of Abilene, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, in Granbury, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Malcolm Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Elwanda was born July 24, 1924, in Peacock, Texas to the late Fletcher and Maggie (Britt) Vaughan. She graduated from Peacock High School in 1943 and married Lee Sherman on July 6, 1944 in Aspermont, Texas. The following year, she and Lee moved from Lubbock to Abilene to start their life together. Elwanda worked for Timex for 17 years and Crown Cork and Seal for 15 years. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was very active in her church, loved to read her Bible and was an avid domino player. As a mother of three boys, she could not help falling in love with the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Mavericks.
In 2010, Elwanda left Abilene to be closer to her family. While in Cleburne, Texas she attended the Calvary Baptist Church.
Her husband Lee preceded her in death on May 5, 1988.
Elwanda is survived by three sons, Bill Sherman of Lewisville, Texas, Dan Sherman and wife Jean of Granbury and Jerry Sherman and wife Jane of Cleburne; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Family suggest memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
