Elvis Buford Istre, 76, died Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Abilene, Texas.
Born in Baytown, Texas on November 13, 1940, Elvis was the son of Edolie and Henry Istre. In 1959, he graduated from Robert Lee High School in Baytown, and received his college degree. Elvis was a teacher. He married Sherry Kay Stamper in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene.
Elvis was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Florence Odom and Doris Istre; and three brothers, Calvin Istre, Ethel Istre and Roy Istre.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Istre of Abilene; a son, Cory Istre, his wife Carrie, and their son, Thomas, of Baytown; a son, Creg Istre, his wife Chelsa, and their children, Sierra, Sterling, Samantha and Steele, of Abilene; a brother, Donald Istre of Baytown; and a nephew, Will Odom.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, at Hillcrest Church of Christ officiated by Damon Parker, Brock Paulk, Creg Istre, John Barton, Terry Brown, Will Odom and Ike Paulk. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
The family requests that no flowers at all be sent. Memorials may be made to Faith Works of Abilene or Zambia Medical Mission.
