Elveta McClatchey, of Hawley, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the age of 68. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Fort Phantom Baptist Church with burial following in Central Cemetery. Pastors Mike Bradford, Bill Dickson, and Dave Douglas will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
January 5, 1940, Elveta was born the daughter of Elmer Thomas and Hazel (Maserang) Thomas in Anson, Texas. She graduated from Anson High School in 1958 and attended Business College for one year. April 16, 1960, Elveta married Charles Eza McClatchey in Anson. She worked for various insurance companies including Wectoga Insurance for four years and Truitt Roberts Insurance Company for seven years. She also worked in the banking industry in Anson and in Abilene. Elveta was a member of Fort Phantom Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Thomas, and one daughter, Carla Sugar. Elveta is survived by her mother, Hazel Thomas, of Abilene; her husband, Charles McClatchey, of Hawley; one daughter, Trina Bradford and her husband Mike, of Rusk, Texas; two brothers, Roy Thomas and his wife Dawn, of Morrow, Ohio, David Thomas and his wife Debbie, of Midland, Texas; two sisters, Joyce Boaz and her husband Eugene, of Abilene, Sherrie Harrell and her husband David, of Greenwood, Texas; five grandchildren, Colton Bradford of Center, Texas, Leslie Bradford, of Rusk, Texas, Allison, Courtney and Victoria Sugar, all of Hawley; 10 nieces and nephews, and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Bradshaw, Jimmy Craft, Max Murray, Kip Engwicht, Joe Dan Kendrick and Rodney Hadley.
