Elton Lee "Bud" Salyers, 85, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at an Abilene nursing center.
Born in Buffalo Gap, Texas on July 25, 1923, he was the son of Eliza Jane (Cadenhead) and Hendrick Robert Salyers. He married Jeanie Bell Shores on May 25, 1946 in Buffalo Gap.
He worked 17 years for Triangle Tool Supply, which was later Crescent Tool Supply, before retiring in November of 1990.
Mr. Salyers was a deacon at Elmwood Baptist Church for 25 years and had worked in the nursery department at both Elmwood Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a greeter at Calvary Baptist Church.
An avid fisherman, Bud would fish most everywhere he went.
His parents three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Salyers of Abilene; sons, Ronald L. "Ronny" Salyers and wife, June, of Abilene, and Billy Douglas "Doug" Salyers and wife, Debe, of Midland; sister, Katherine Lambert of Abilene; four grandsons, Randy Salyers and wife, Jeniffer, Cody Salyers, and wife, Ashley, Philip Salyers, and Daniel Salyers and wife, Holly; and one great-granddaughter, Anicia Salyers, and three great-grandsons, Rylan Salyers, Adrien "Bucky" Salyers and Daniel Salyers.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Oglesby and Rev. Earnest Wall officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Pallbearers will be Randy Salyers, Cody Salyers, Philip Salyers, Daniel Salyers, Les Bruce and Scott Tarpley.
