Elsie Henryetta Britton Norwood of Abilene, Texas, passed away on March 21, 2015 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 5:00-7:00PM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Memorial services will be held at on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 10:00AM at The Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal with The Rev. N. Luke Back, Rector, officiating. Inurnment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Elsie Norwood was born in Carney, Oklahoma to Henry Alvin and Beaulah Elizabeth Britton on October 13, 1920. Elsie married Billie Jack Norwood on December 12, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas. Elsie was a secretary at Amarillo Air Force Base and was the supervisor of the discharge section. Elsie was involved in many charitable organizations during her life and was loved by all who knew her.
Elsie is preceded in death by her daughter Susan Norwood Wright, parents Henry Alvin and Beaulah Elizabeth Britton, and sisters Leona Eikenbary, Jessie Booth, Annabell Bales, and Faye Woodard.
Elsie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Retired USAF Colonel Billie Jack Norwood, children Bill A. Norwood of Lorena, Texas, Cathy A. Norwood of Abilene, Texas, Brian A. Norwood and his wife Kathy of Houston, Texas, sisters Bonnie Cartwright of Amarillo, Texas, Ruth Edwards of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, brother Henry A. Britton Jr. of Portland, Oregon, grandchildren Lisa Lopez and Deana Bartholomew of San Antonio, Texas, Lindsey Nold of Salt Lake City, Utah, James A. Norwood of Boise, Idaho, Carrie L. Williams of Portland, Oregon, Kelly L. Parsons of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jessica L. Marsh of Clayton, North Carolina, 8 great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of friends and acquaintances from all around the world.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Elsie’s name to the Ben Richey Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 6839, Abilene, TX 79608.
