Elmer Harold Woolsey, of Abilene, died Monday, November 19, 2007 at the age of 89. Funeral services, with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating, assisted by Donnie Voss, will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 24 in the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Baggett Cemetery in Comanche County. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Elmer was born July 19, 1918 in Comanche County, Texas to Ted Woolsey and Evelyn (Thompson) Woolsey. He graduated from Merkel High School. Elmer served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea.
September 23, 1939, Elmer married Willie Mae Holden in Comanche. She preceded him in death June 29, 2007. Abilene has been Elmer's home since 1969. He owned and operated the River Oaks Texaco Service Station. After selling the service station in 1983, Elmer worked for several years as a courier for First National Bank in Abilene. He was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Willie Mae, his brother, Carl Woolsey, and his sister, Oleta Bailey. He is survived by one son, Vick Woolsey and his wife Carmela, of Cedar Hill, Texas; one daughter, Marsha McCrackin, of Grand Prairie, Texas; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Marc Woolsey, Travis Woolsey, Aaron McCrackin, and Zane Bridges will serve as pallbearers.
