Ellen M. (EM) Young, 96, of Abilene passed away on November 28, 2021 in Abilene, Texas.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

There will be a private graveside service at Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. Felicia Hopkins and Pastor Jody Forbus officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

EM was born in Callahan County, Texas to Ernest John Hill, Sr. and Cathryn Hill on June 8, 1925.  She went to school in Baird and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University. She married William D. (Bill) Young in 1947 in Baird. She taught second grade at Reagan Elementary for 20 years and after retiring was the teacher of dominoes to her grandchildren as well as Bill’s office manager.  She was very involved in the Welcoming Ministry at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Abilene Woman’s Club, and Carousel Club. 

EM was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 62 years, in 2009, and her sister, Ann Davis, and brother, E. J. Hill, Jr.   

EM is survived by her son, Craig Young and wife Jenny, of Abilene, daughter Diane McIntire and husband James, of Carbon, sister, Ernestine Goodrich of Austin, and grandchildren, Josh Young and wife Lisa, Melissa Ackors, and Reed Young and wife Caitlin, and great grandchildren Will Young and Elliott Young and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Memorials may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Big Country in Abilene, and Carbon Community Baptist Church, Carbon, Texas.

EM’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Wesley Court, Hospice of the Big Country, and to Mother’s many attendants over the years.
