Elizabeth Parker Hogsett died on August 27, 2007. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 31, 2007 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Charles Dunnam will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. There will not be a formal visitation, but viewing will be today, Thursday, from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Born Elizabeth Parker November 13, 1906 near Roby, Fisher County, Texas to Frank H. and Nancy Elizabeth Barron Parker, she was raised on the Parker ranch, attended public school in Roby, and graduated from Abilene High School.
Elizabeth married Charles G. Hogsett of Rotan, Texas on December 24, 1924 in Anson, Texas at the home of a sister, Bernie Parker Purifoy. She and Charles spent their Honeymoon night at the Grace Hotel in Abilene.
After a short career for Charles at the First National Bank in Rotan, Charles and Elizabeth purchased a partnership in Hogsett-Dowell Chevrolet Company in Rotan. Later they purchased full ownership in Hogsett Chevrolet-Buick and spent more than 40 years with this dealership. Elizabeth served as a bookkeeper for most of this time.
In 1970, Elizabeth and Charles retired and moved to Lake LBJ near Marble Falls, Texas where they very much enjoyed their retirement. Charles died on December 13, 1979 and Elizabeth has remained at her lake home.
Elizabeth loved to play Bridge and work in her yard. She resigned from her Bridge Clubs only in the last couple of years. She was a longtime member of the Rotan Methodist Church and later has been a member of the Kingsland, Texas Community Church for more than thirty-five years.
Elizabeth and Charles had one son, Charles Hogsett, Jr. now of Abilene, Texas, a grandson, Tim Hogsett of Austin, Texas, and a great-granddaughter, Holly Elizabeth Hogsett of Austin. She was the youngest in a family of eight, four brothers and three sisters. Her brothers were Willie, Fred, Tom and "Little Frank" Parker, all now deceased. Her sisters were Exa Ford Hubbard, Stella Floyd, and Bernie Purifoy, also all now deceased.
Elizabeth celebrated her 100th birthday on November 13, 2006.
