On Sunday, September 28, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas, Elizabeth L. “Bea” Chase went to be with her Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a brief battle with cancer.
Born October 2, 1926 in Breckenridge, Texas, she and her family moved to Abilene, Texas in 1933. She attended Abilene public schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1944. During her days at AHS she made many lifelong friends, including a group that called themselves the “Girls of 44” with whom she shared a bond that never ended. Bea attended Hardin Simmons University as a freshman before marrying her soul mate and “love of her life” Lewis J. Chase on April 23, 1945.
Elizabeth’s life can be summed up in three words, Faith, Family and Friends. She was a Charter Member of Brookhollow Christian Church where she served on the Board, served as a Deacon and as President of the Christian Women’s Fellowship numerous times.
Second only to her faith, family was the most important thing in Bea’s life. Family included not only her biological family members but her extended “adopted” family as well. She always remembered everyone’s birthday, wedding anniversary, and special dates. You could expect a card and or a phone call on each and every occasion. She loved to watch her sons, grandsons and great grandsons play baseball (her favorite sport). She literally attended thousands of games starting in 1955 and continuing all the way through this summer. She was a true fan of the game.
If you were a friend of Bea’s you were a friend for life. In their “retirement” years she and Lewis traveled extensively throughout the country with friends, especially their lifelong friends Ann and Jack Herman. Bea loved her friends as much as she did her family. To her they were one in the same.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lewis J. Chase and her beloved grandson Brian Scott Chase. Also by her mother and father Rose Foreman Johnson and Charles T. Johnson; four brothers, Charles, Paul, Jim and Kit Johnson; her baby sister Rose Lee; and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her two sons, Lewis James “Jim” Chase and wife, Vicky of Midland, and Mike Chase and wife, Rose of Lubbock; sister, Ann Hawkins of Abilene; three grandchildren, Jeff Chase and wife Kelly of Lubbock, Ashley Chase Molfino and husband Marcelo of Beaumont, Jennifer Chase Black and husband Clayton of Stanton; daughter-in-law, Vicki V. Chase of Midland and granddaughter-in-law Kara Kinman of Lubbock; five great grandchildren, Haley Chase Kinman, Hope Kinman, Garrett and Brian Chase, all of Lubbock and Jack Cooper Molfino of Beaumont. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews covering three generations.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their countless prayers, given of their precious time, and opened their caring hearts to Bea during her brief illness. A special thanks goes out to the entire staff of Hospice of Lubbock, Grand Court Independent Living and Promise Land Assisted Living. The love, care and dignity given to Bea will never be forgotten.
