Elizabeth Marie Altman, 87, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in Abilene, Texas.
The daughter of Leroy and Bessie (Givens) Fowles, Marie was born in Fort Worth, Texas on March 20, 1931. She married Don Altman on March 2, 1950 at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. Marie lived in Abilene (1969-1991) before moving to Fort Walton Beach, Florida where she lived fourteen years, after which they returned to Abilene.
Marie was a homemaker, as well as being a secretary at various churches which they attended and Herald of Truth. She was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene.
Marie’s parents; two sons, Russell Wayne “Russ” Altman and Thomas Lee Altman; two sisters, Cora Crownover and Thelma Saylor; and a brother, Lee Roy Fowles, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Don Altman of Abilene; daughter, Donna Altman of Abilene; four grandchildren, Shawn Altman and Carisa Day of Portland, Oregon, Danielle Galloway of Tallahassee, Florida, and Ryder Altman of Abilene; and three great-grandsons, Caelan Day, Renlee Day and Corbin Galloway, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Committal services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Road, officiated by Danny Minton. Following the committal service there will be a reception and visitation in the fellowship hall at Southern Hill Church of Christ, 3666 Buffalo Gap Road. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. She will be in state for viewing Sunday afternoon and Monday at the funeral home.
The family requests that donations in memory of Marie be made to Christian Service Center, 3185 North 10th St., Abilene, TX 79603.
