Edwin Doyle Kerley, 81 of Abilene passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017. Ed was born November 3, 1935 in Coke County, Texas to Bruce Edwin Kerley and Annie Mae Smith Kerley. He was raised in Fluvanna, Texas where he attended school and played various sports and competed in rodeo, riding bulls and calf roping. He attended Texas Tech University and Abilene Christian University. In 1955 he married Charlotte Janeene Smith in Snyder, Texas. Ed and Janeene settled in Abilene in 1957 where he began a 50-year sales career with both Central Texas Iron Works and W & W Steel and was involved in the construction of the new Texas Stadium. Ed retired in 2008 focusing on his lifelong passion for golf. Playing the game for over 50 years he participated in hundreds of tournaments, Pro-Ams and Championships. He was often on the leaderboard, and seven times hitting a hole-in-one. In the past 10 years he shot his age on numerous occasions achieving one of the toughest accomplishments in the game. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy Wayne Kerley, and son Dr. Jesse Dirk Kerley. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janeene; son, Ty Kerley and wife Vicki of Ardmore, OK; daughter, Shona Muccini and husband Steve of Austin; four grandsons, Casey Kerley and Dalton Kerley both of Abilene and Ethan and Oliver Yndo of Austin; three sisters, Bobbie Taylor and Karen Millhollon and Jim Bob Millhollon of Snyder, Dianne Worsham; and brother, Mike Kerley and Andrea Kerley of Abilene. Family visitation at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4th, will be followed by services at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. A graveside service will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder, Texas, at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Mike Kerley, Brent Taylor, Casey Kerley, Dalton Kerley, Ethan Yndo and Oliver Yndo.
