Edward Hottenstein, 79, formerly of Abilene, died Thursday, January 13, 2011 in a Ft. Worth Hospital.
He was born on July 27, 1931 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Edward and Kathleen Hottenstein.
Beginning his career in the United States Air Force in 1951, he saw much of the world. While in Vietnam, he served as the Chaplain's Assistant. He proudly led the RG's (Revelation Generation) singing group. Edward retired from active duty service in September of 1971, during his last duty assignment at Dyess Air Force Base. After retirement, he officially made Abilene his home and worked at the Youth Center at Dyess until 1990.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, the Secular Franciscan Order, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a longtime supporter of many charities, including St. Jude's.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Paul and Richard, lifelong friend, Margaret E. Thomason and his beloved companion, Butterfly.
Survivors include his brother, Joseph Hottenstein of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and sister, Catherine "Sue" LaBar of Allentown, Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews, as well as his extended family, Jim and Libby Roe of Abilene, God-children, James Roe, John Roe and Margi Roe McCleskey and three great God-children.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 17, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, officiated by the Reverend Monsignor Frederick Nawarskas. Burial will follow at 12 noon Monday in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
