Edith Marie Reneau Knight, 85, of Abilene passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017, in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 5th, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Graveside services will be on Monday, February 6th, at 11:00 a.m. in Hawley Cemetery officiated by Ed Womack.
Edith Marie Reneau Knight was born May 4th, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to Wilbur and Nina Campbell Reneau. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1948 and attended one year at Abilene Christian College. She married Darrell Clayton Knight on September 9, 1949 in Dallas. They lived in Runnels County Texas where Darrell farmed until 1956, then they moved to Brownfield, then to Lovington, New Mexico, and then to Abilene in 1963. They moved to Hawley, Texas in 1980. Marie worked as a secretary at Christian Homes in its early years and then at West Texas Utilities until she retired.
Marie is survived by her three sons and their wives: Steve and Pat Knight of Hawley, Danny and Jan Knight of Abilene and Larry and Mary Kay Knight of Abilene. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jim Drennan and his wife Shelley, D'Ann McAlister and her husband Stuart, Chandra Knight Ferguson and her husband Chance, Guy Knight and his wife Sabrina, Shane Knight and his wife Lynn, Slade Knight, Zachary Knight and his wife Meg, Ashley Knight Snow and her husband David and 22 great-grandchildren, Cody, Garrett and Dakota Drennan, Cameron and Evan McAlister, Dylan and Skylar Knight, Colton, Conner, Caden and Cavan Ferguson, Dawson, Autumn and Teaghan Knight, Sage, Kinsley and Kasen Knight, Owen, Clay and Will Knight and Emma and Hudson Snow.
Her parents, her husband and her brother, Gene Reneau, preceded her in death.
The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to offer support and love to Marie in the last few years of her life. We especially appreciate the tender care the Hendrick Hospice Staff showed her and our entire family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Hendrick Hospice, Christian Homes or your favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Jim Drennan, Guy Knight, Shane Knight, Slade Knight, Zach Knight, Stuart McAlister, Chance Ferguson and David Snow.
