Edgar Lee Wittie, 84, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012 in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 20, at 1:00 p.m. at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A formal procession will follow to Elmwood Memorial Park for the graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
Ed was born on November 13, 1928 in Runnels County, Texas to Edgar Opal Wittie and Lula Mae Yates. He married Betty Lavern Wilson on December 18, 1948 in Abilene, Texas. From the age of 16, Ed's career was centered in the oil field. He was self-employed for over 60 years in field aspects of the oil business. After retirement, Ed enjoyed gardening and working at his home in his small business of lawn equipment repair.
He was preceded in death by his wife, both parents and three brothers: Bill Wittie, Wayne Wittie, and Joe Wittie.
Ed is survived by one son, Richard Wittie and one daughter Patricia Jackson and her husband George Jackson, all of Abilene. Survivors also include four grandchildren: Brad Morrison and his wife Angie of Salida, Colorado; Benje Morrison and his wife Laura of Abilene; Allison Bredemeyer, her husband Kevin and her mother, Retha Wittie of Abilene; and Autumn McRee and her husband Aaron of Cary, North Carolina; and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Jack Wittie of Abilene; a sister-in-law, Jean Wittie of Cedar Hill, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Lucky.
