Edward B. Grothaus, III of Abilene Texas, lost the biggest battle of his life, surrounded by his loved ones, to ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the age of 57.
Ed served Abilene for 24 years as General Manager and COO of Abilene Country Club. Ed was married to Jennifer, the love of his life, for 30 years. They met and fell in love at Tapatio Springs Country Club in Boerne, Texas and made a home, a life and an everlasting dream in Abilene, Texas. Ed’s greatest love and devotion was to God, his wife and four children Jessica Grothaus Jones, Nicky Grothaus, Raymond Grothaus and Eddie Grothaus, IV. Blessings overflowed when he became a grandfather to Logan Eugene Jones and Landry Edward Jones.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Darlene and Edward Grothaus, who now wrap their heavenly arms around him along with his aunts and uncles. He has five sisters and two brothers and many nieces and nephews who are left to cherish his memory. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jessica Grothaus Jones and her husband Jeff, Raymond Grothaus and his fiancée Tiffany, Nicky Grothaus, and Eddie Grothaus IV and his fiancée Meghan.
A funeral mass will be held on at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road, in Abilene, Texas. Father Sam Matthiesen and will officiate. There will be a procession following the service to the Abilene Country Club, 4039 South Treadaway, for a “greenside” service and reception celebrating Ed’s life. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
