Enoch Brady Cox, Jr., D.D.S., 84, passed away at home in Abilene on October 22, 2009, following a brief illness.
Dr. Cox was born in Roscoe, Texas to Enoch and Lena (King) Cox on August 12, 1925. The family moved to Abilene when he was 8 months old. Brady graduated from Abilene High School in 1943.
During World War II, he was an Army company clerk and light mortar crewman in the 97th Division Infantry in Germany and the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
Brady Cox graduated from McMurry College in 1948 and married his sweetheart, Katydell McCarty, June 30, 1949. He taught school in Seminole for one year before returning to school. He attained a master's degree at Southwestern Medical College and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor University in Dallas in 1953.
Dr. E. Brady Cox practiced dentistry for 55 years, specializing in pediatric care. He was a loyal member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and participated in numerous civic organizations in Abilene.
Brady Cox was preceded in death by his beloved wife Katy; his parents Enoch and Lena Cox; and a niece, Amy McCarty of Houston. He is survived by his sister Ann Menefee of Abilene; daughter Beckie Cox of Abilene; son and daughter-in-law Tom and Jo Helen Cox of Abilene; brother-in-law and wife Paul and Elizabeth McCarty of Houston; niece Glenda Huckabay of Tulsa OK; and nephew Larry Menefee of Lake Jackson.
After his love of family and friends, his next passion was spending time at his ranch. Brady was happily working cows, plowing, and bulldozing trees two months before his death.
The family wants to thank all of his friends, with special mention to Kathy Meador, Jane Alexander, Roy Emerson, his wonderful office staff, and the staff of Hendrick Day Surgery.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October, 25, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 US Hwy 277 South.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Propheteers Sunday School Class of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
