Duane Hall

1961 — August 10, 2018

Duane Hall, 57, of Abilene, passed away on August 10, 2018 in Abilene, Texas.  He fought hard to rid his body from cancer, never giving in or giving up.  Duane is free now to feel the wind in his face and begin a new adventure.

Duane was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Sylvia Catherick and Columbus (CB) Hall on July 18, 1961. As a young child he was a military brat, settling in Lompoc, California where he graduated from Cabrillo Senior High School.  Duane attended California State University, Fresno, earning his bachelor and masters degrees.  Soon after, he began his career as a city planner, first in Mariposa County, California and then retiring as the Town Planner for Truckee, California in 2010.  While in Abilene he worked as the Historical Preservation Officer for the City.  After leaving Truckee, Duane began a journey he called a walkabout.  He traveled to many beautiful places in our wonderful country, enjoying all the sights he always dreamed of seeing.  Soon after he started his walkabout he met up with an old crush from middle school and fell in love. After completing his adventure, he began a new one with his love.  He married Linda Zeiger on May 30, 2015.  Although their time together was short, it was meaningful and never taken for granted.  Duane was a humble, generous man who was happy and kind to all he knew.  He enjoyed the great outdoors, hiking, poker, and learning the history of all the places he'd been.  His latest hobby was searching for historical markers, learning their history and blogging his research.

Duane was preceded in death by his father, Columbus (CB) Hall.

Duane is survived by his loving wife Linda Hall, two of his biggest fans, his step-children, David and Ginette Kronk.  His beautiful mother Sylvia, awesome step-dad Jim Manweiler, his big brother Rory Hall, and his little sister Teresa Cooley and her husband Robert, and his amazing niece and nephew, Racheal and John.  Also, his two loyal furry companions Rusty and Max.  He adored all of his family.

Duane will be honored at a celebration of life with family and friends in Lompoc, California.  His ashes will be spread by Linda at his favorite hiking trail at Yosemite National Park in California.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Hayan Moualla, his nurse Liz Hund, and everyone at Texas Oncology, Abilene, to the entire staff of Hendrick Hospice, and all the wonderful nurses at Hendrick Hospital.  Nurses are the most amazing and wonderful people.
