W. Jean (Jeanne) Hayter Tucker, R.N., M.S.N., Ph.D., of Tuscola, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 at Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene, Texas with Reverend Steve Brooks Officiating.
Graveside services will be Monday, October 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Services are under the direction of Hamil Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Jeanne was born on November 1, 1952 to Duward and Wilma Hayter in Borger, Texas. She was born on All Saints day and regularly reminded loved ones she was a Saint. She was a graduate of Borger High School, Touro Infirmary School of Nursing, Midwestern State University, and concluded with her Ph.D. from Texas Women's University. She married Garland L. Tucker on February 7, 1981 in Borger, Texas. She worked 30 plus years as a Nurse, Administrator, and educator. She was currently a tenured Assistant professor at Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing in Abilene. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist church and active in handbells and choir. She was a delegate for her church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, to the North West Texas Annual Conference for the last five years. She also served on the SPRC Committee and Administrative Board at Aldersgate. She was a member of the Red River Emmaus Community. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and American Association of University Women. She was awarded the "Yellow Rose of Texas" by Governor George Bush in 1995.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Garland; her children, Freddie and his wife Becky, Brent, Justin, and Amanda; her grandchildren, Hayley, Jordan, and Lynzey; her brother, John Hayter.
Memorials can be given to the Aldersgate United Methodist Music Ministry or to the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing Student Scholarship Fund.
