Doyle Ray Agnew, 63, of Abilene passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Abilene. He was born in Colorado City, Texas to Earl Agnew and Elizabeth (Read) Agnew on January 15, 1950. He served in the U. S. Army as a carpenter. He worked as a painter and carpenter for many years, as well doing various other jobs. Most recently he did pool maintenance and repairs and home repairs. Doyle was always a hard worker. He was raised in the Baptist Church. Doyle loved music and teaching music to others. He also liked reading, learning, sports, fishing and old cars. He was quiet and laidback, yet opinionated and adventurous. Very knowledgeable about many different things, Doyle was levelheaded and very smart and computer orientated. Doyle also had a good sense of humor, had a big heart with great love, and tried to live life to the fullest. He was a great man who loved spending time with family. Doyle was a great father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many. He was an honest man who will be missed greatly by all. He was married to Darla Bowman of Abilene for 19 years. Doyle had two children with her and raised her son as his own. He was preceded in death by his father Earl Agnew, mother Elizabeth Agnew, and grandparents. Doyle is survived by his daughter, Elena Rathbone and husband Scot of Abilene; sons, Eric Agnew of Abilene, Michael Parrish and wife Twila of Clyde, and Caleb Ames-Agnew of Abilene; and granddaughters, Leah Rathbone of Abilene, and Angell Carlton-Parrish of Clyde. Survivors also include his sisters, Joyce Noble, Nell Miller, Carole Obst and Linda Bush all of Fort Worth, and Judy Moore of West Virginia, and brothers, Burl Agnew of Grand Prairie, and William Agnew of Austin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene. Interment will follow in Abilene Municipal Cemetery, Cedar Hill Section. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Eric Agnew, Michael Parrish, Scot Rathbone and Will Bouford.
