Dovie Marie Bardin White, 87, of Abilene, passed from this life on Saturday, June 13, 2020 in Arlington, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday June 17, 2020 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 18, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. at Broadview Baptist Church, with Pastor David Cason officiating. An opportunity for viewing will also be available at 9 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Tuscola Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Dovie was born on November 25, 1932 in Ninnekah, Oklahoma to the late Benjamin and Bertha (Worbes) Bardin. After graduating from Winters High School, she married Charles E. “Gene” White, Sr. on February 24, 1952 in Winters, Texas and then settled in Abilene. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Dovie worked for KRBC in Abilene for several years and was a Colonel’s Lady in the Commemorative Air Force. Dovie loved to paint and was an avid seamstress, gardener, reader, and storyteller. She loved every person she met, including her caregivers and neighbors, “adopting” them as her own family. Dovie was a member of Broadview Baptist Church where she served as a church treasurer for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Bertha Bardin, her six older siblings: Ephraim Bardin, Calvin Bardin, Alice Durant, Rose Flowers, Viola Bulsterbaum and Laverne Dagley, and her loving husband Charles “Gene” of 62 years.
Dovie is survived by her son, Charles E. White, Jr. and his wife Sandy of Lubbock, Texas; daughter Melinda Scifres and husband John of Mansfield, Texas; three grandchildren, Ashley White, Natalie Scifres, and Ryan Scifres; and numerous nieces and nephews.
