Dorsie Bell Wallace, loving wife of Billy Jack Wallace, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2013 in Abilene, TX. Dorsie was born in Stamford, TX to Clara and H.R. Jamar. In 1946 she married the love of her life to which she had two children Billy Jim and Clara Ann. Dorsie spent the early years of her marriage living in Venezuela due to her husband’s job in the oil industry. It was there that she began to work on her craft as a seamstress and designer. In 1963 she returned to Texas and started her own clothing line aptly named, Dorcia Originals. Her beautiful designs caught the attention of celebrities and governors’ wives for which she created several pieces. Some of her most well-known apparels were her professional lines that she made for the banking industry during the 60s and 70s. Then in 1969 she was commissioned by Governor Smith to design a Texas Flag that would travel to the moon and back on Apollo XII. She enjoyed her success in the fashion industry, but as the 1980s approached, she began to devote more of her time to the First Church of Christ Scientist in Abilene. Dorsie lived and breathed the doctrines of Christian Science, and after retiring from her fashion career, she began a new chapter in her life as a Christian Science Practitioner. She devoted herself to her practice and helped countless patients through prayer and spiritual healing. She was a tireless Christian woman who gave all she had to her family, her church, and her community.
Dorsie loved life and was a strong, independent woman who was fearless in her pursuit of happiness. Those who knew her best will always remember her sensational cooking. She perfected many original recipes and wowed many alike with her fabulous meals. Others will remember her out on a boat in Venezuela catching some very big fish and loving every minute of it. But most will remember her devotion to her work as a Christian Science Practitioner and the commitment she put forth towards all that needed her help. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Dorsie touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dorsie was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and HR Jamar, stepmother, Odean Jamar, sister, Mary Fern, brother, William Jamar, and her son, Billy Jim Wallace.
Dorsie is survived by her spouse, Billy Jack Wallace; her daughter, Clara Ricco and her spouse, Steve Ricco; daughter-in-law, Althea Wallace; her grandchildren, Lauren Mendoza, Andrew, Caitlin, Blair, and Cameron Wallace; and her great-grandchildren, Micah, Alicia, and Mateo Mendoza.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Hospice of the Big Country for their constant care and attention.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in honor of Dorsie to: The First Church of Christ Scientist of Abilene, 1201 South Pioneer, Abilene, TX 79605.
