Dorris Charlene Funk

Charlene Funk, 83, of Abilene died Monday, March 9, 2009 at home in the loving care of her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11 at the Fifth and Grape Church of Christ. Graveside services follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Rule Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Charlene was born in Rochester, Texas on February 21, 1926 to James Stuart Cameron and Artie Ruth (McBroom) Cameron. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1944. Charlene married Jimmy Herman Lee Funk in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 17, 1945. He preceded her in death March 30, 1963. They moved to Abilene from Wichita Falls in 1958. She worked as an LVN for 28 years; two years at the Abilene State School and 26 years private duty nursing. Charlene was a member of the Fifth and Grape Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Artie Cameron; her husband, Herman Funk; two brothers, Loyal and Wayne Cameron; two sisters, Laverne Emerson and Grace King; and one grandson, Daryl Funk. Charlene is survived by one son, David Funk and his wife Faye, of Anson; three daughters, Sandra Stevens and husband Harry, of Tye, Shelia Becker and her husband Jim, of Abilene, and Patricia Cook of Bridge City. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made in Charlene's honor to: Foster's Home for Children, P.O.
